After heavy rains traveling from Naples to north of Tampa, the rain stopped so we did not get soaked camping at the Suwannee River Campground near Old Town, Florida. If you are following along on a map, check US 19 north of Chiefland.
This park is quiet and tucked away off two county roads. The feature that drew us was the 1500 feet boardwalk described in the ad in the Trailer Life directory. The boardwalk took 5 years to build, 3 years in permitting and 2 years in building. The couple running the campground were working full-time while building the boardwalk evenings and weekends.
The rain held off for our night of camping. We were comfortable with a fan going during the night rather than putting on the air conditioner. We were off by 8:40 AM just as the rain started.
We are traveling north on US 19/27 to pick up US 82 in GA. We lunched in the Bakery Cafe in Bainbridge, GA, the county seat of Decater County. The town is charming with a Victorian style gazebo in the shaded town square. Huge Victorian homes lined the main street as we drove into town.
The afternoon drive on US 82 in Alabama was a little nerve-wracking with very heavy rains for about an hour. Since it rained all afternoon we opted for a motel with wireless internet access.
