We spent a night at the Medora Campground and went to the free program at the Chateau DeMoras house and the evening musical. The weather sure has been cooperating with sunny skies and low humidity. The musical celebrates their 40th anniversary this summer with a Western theme program and the usual Teddy Roosevelt charge up San Juan hill in the darkened sky. Teddy said he would never have been President if he did not have the experience as a young man living in the Badlands.
Afer the campout experiencing the worse shower rooms so far this trip; small stalls and no privacy, we headed to Medora again to visit the new Cowboy Hall of Fame. Admission was half price because not all the exhibits were ready. It is a nice building and will be a big draw for visitors when it is completed. We ended our stay with lunch at the Cowboy Cafe, a regular stop for us.
We stopped at the Abbey in Richardton, ND to visit the restored church which can be seen from the freeway. A big boom crane was in position to raise the new bell to the top of one of the twin towers.
We then headed up the scenic 200 to travel cross country to Bismarck. We stopped at the historic site for Fort Clark, Fort Mandan replica and the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center. We ended the day back on Central Daylight time at the General Sibley Campground south of time. We are one of about 15 campers in a park with over 100 sites. The campground has lots of grass and shade trees. I have the bathhouse to myself.
We spent the morning at the North Dakota Heritage Center; Dan in the archives and I checked out very well done exhibits. This is a quick post while at the Bismarck Public Library. We have one more campout tonight and then on to the farmhouse.
