We enjoyed the OK and KS countryside today traveling on US 283 most of the day. We visited the National Route 66 museum in Elk City, OK and then the Boot Hill Museum in Dodge City, KS. The country side varied from wide open range land with cattle and oil pumps to sections of just rolling countryside with no evidence of humans for miles. As we traveled into Kansas, we saw many farmers out in their fields as well as many irrigation machines.
We stopped for the night in Dodge City and found the information center very helpful. We ended up going to the Boot Hill Museum which includes a reproduction of Front Street from the time of the gunfighting days. We watched the staged 7:00 PM gunfight and attended the variety show in the Long Branch Saloon. It makes me want to watch Gunsmoke reruns on TVLand.
It was another hot day about 90 degrees so we opted for the Super 8.
